Interpreting the Mythology of Ziz

While Behemoth is the apocalyptic beast of the earth, Ziz is the apocalyptic beast of the air and aerospace. Ziz is held to be the ruler of all birds. He is described as an enormous bird, and his size has been compared to that of Leviathan. Hebrew lore depicts him sitting atop the earth with his head reaching far into the sky. It is said that his wingspan can block out the sun, and that when he does unfurl his wings to that extent, he shields the earth from “the winds of the south” which would, according to myth, destroy this planet otherwise. When his wings spread, a total eclipse ensues, and the entire world is said to darken.

“Ziz” is a word in the Hebrew language the same way that “Meh” is a word in the English language. It’s used to (inarticulately) describe the taste of a given food. The idea here is that one day the Abrahamic deity is gonna kill Ziz and feed him to the Jews. Despite the derogatory intent behind the name, something about an apocalyptic demon having a name that both starts and ends with the last letter of the alphabet and reads the same backwards and forwards feels… apt.

The other apocalyptic beasts are possessed of extreme metaphysical significance, so it is appropriate to assume that Ziz does as well. Perhaps whatever this significance is can be inferred from his name via esoteric name analysis. The name would appear to signify something to the tune of “Ashes to Ashes,” except, in this context, “Aeons to Aeons” makes a lot more sense.

Ziz is often compared to the Greek phoenix, which bears huge esoteric significance for Ziz’s interpretation in demon magick. This comparison proves my esoteric name interpretation accurate,* but it does more than that. In Thelemic esotericism, the phoenix represents the entirety of the universe– the supersoul or superstring field. Behemoth is considered to be the mechanism whereby the causal world is made to be stable, right? Well, if Ziz’s name has the esoteric meaning of “Aeons to Aeons,” and if he is attributed to the Phoenix/Supersoul, and if he is equally attributed to all four causal alchemical elements, and if his wings prevent the earth from being destroyed, it seems most likely that Ziz is, like Behemoth, a sentient deity who operates as or at least exerts agency such that he is perceived as a fundamental component of creation– you know, like Nyx in Greek mythology.

Alright, now that I’ve been successful with one of Ziz’s names, I’mma interpret the other ones. Ziz’s name “Renanin” means “Celestial Singer.” Since Ziz is sometimes described as a rooster, and roosters crow when the sun comes up, I interpret this name as esoterically signifying Ziz being the demon-god who declares the onset of the next aeon. He is also called Sekwi, meaning “Seer,” in reference to his purported “relation to the heavenly regions.” I can’t interpret that. Lastly, his name Bariuchne is translated as “to be roasted at this feast.” What’s that you’re telling me Hebrew lore? Ziz is gonna burn? Like a PHOOOOOEEENNNNNIIXXXXX????? Boom! Aeonic inference again, bitch! If the universe is to be signified by a phoenix, the cyclic burning and rebirth of the Phoenix is to be interpreted as the cyclic procession of aeons.

*Yes I’m going back and forth between writing this article and doing the research for this article. I know that’s strange, but you have to admit, my esoteric name interpretation is pretty fucking dope.

Ziz in Demon Magick

Ziz is powerful in rites of baneful magick, specializing in binding spells, lethal execrations, and vampyric sorcery. He can help the magickian integrate her shadow and commune with her Higher Self. His auspices are apt for the divinatory usage of Tarot cards and bones.

Ziz presides over necromancy, nature magick, psychic vampyrism, the creation of egregores, sex magick, glamour spells, mind control, sanguine vampyrism, shapeshifting in dreams and astral projection, lunar magick, Vodoun, and the usage of Norse runes in sorcery. He is greatly knowledgeable regarding the Eleusinian mysteries and he can be called upon to strengthen the magickian’s personal magnetism.

Ziz can cure (in full or in part depending on the strength of the rite) addiction, remove or diminish insecurities, and fix digestive problems. He can initiate the witch through Bapki [the Planetary Sphere of the Earth] and Shams [the Planetary Sphere of the Sun].

Ziz can increase the magickian’s social skills and make her a better writer. He can teach the witch how to read people as well as seduce them, and he can make her a better liar. He can impart courage, creativity, and femininity to people.

Ziz is greatly knowledgeable regarding automobile mechanics, welding, and quantum mechanics. He can improve the witch’s physical reflexes and teach her to do all that cool shit that that one friend you have who used to street race can do.

Ziz can help you perform a pretty dope vampyric sex magick technique. With his help, you’ll create an egregore which will feed upon the sexual energy of someone you’re fucking, refine it, and then give it to you. That sounds fucking great.

The internal nexion of the magickian will become either a Black Flame or a “White Flame” based upon which energies she integrates into her physis [ever-changing nature of a being with spirit]. Ziz can be called upon to give you either, or something inbetween. If you want your internal nexion darker or lighter but stronger either way, Ziz is the demon that you call on.

Ziz can be called on in spellwork to bring about healing, fidelity, love, and luck. He can help the witch strengthen her ability to remember her dreams and/or attain lucidity within them. He specializes in work with the Red Kundalini as well as all chakras, no matter how obscure (he still does specialize a bit in the seven spinal chakras).

Conspiracy Theory

Behemoth has appeared in the ritual praxis of Primal Craft, the Draconian Tradition, Traditional Demonolatry, and more, so there’s really no question that he’s no servant of Jehovah– after all, he appears prominently in medieval demonology as well as more obscure strains of Qliphothic demonology. But I think there might be something behind the claim that Behemoth was created by, serves, can only be killed by, and will eventually be killed by Jehovah. I honestly wouldn’t blame you if you skipped this section of the article.

Hebrew lore’s descriptions of Jehovah’s relation with the apocalyptic beasts seems like deliberate slander on the part of Jehovah. Hebrew lore purports that both Behemoth and Ziz are faithful servants and creations of Jehovah, which is odd, because Hebrew lore prophesies that, once the world ends, Ziz and Behemoth will be killed, eaten, and then served at a great feast alongside the corpses of the two Leviathans.

The Leviathans were Jehovah’s enemies– why would two faithful servants of Jehovah alongside their “master’s” enemies, and why would Ziz and Behemoth be lumped in together with the Leviathans at all? Hebrew lore claims that Jehovah is the only entity that can kill Behemoth, but why would Jehovah feel the need to posture like that– especially if Behemoth serves him?

Alright, so if you were a tribal war god who wanted to be venerated as if you were the only deity and existence, what type of shit would you tell your prophets about the group of incomparably powerful demon-gods whose agencies are or appear to be cornerstones of this universe’s creation and sustained existence? You’d definitely wanna downplay the fuck out of them, right? If Jehovah wants to pretend that he created Satan, and that Satan once served him, and that Satan rebelled because he basically wanted to be Jehovah, what do you think Jehovah would tell his prophets about the demon-gods who played a role in the manifestation of the causal realm? Let’s imagine that for a moment, shall we?

“Oh, that Ziz guy? He’s totally my bitch. I’m basically his dad. He does whatever I tell him to and all his wisdom comes directly from me. I could totally kill him by the way. You know what? I think Ziz is bitchmade– I think I’m gonna fucking feed him to you! And I’ll do the same thing with that Behemoth dude– he serves me too! He may be a cornerstone of creation, but he’s a cornerstone of my creation, and he totally does whatever I say. Did you know that I’m the only entity in existence that can kill the Behemoth?”

Who got roasted now, bitch?

Referred to as “the mightiest dread of Nemea”, the deity known as the Nemean Lion is held to be the offspring of one of my favorite goddesses: Luna/Selene. I’ve always had wonderful experiences working with the obscure mythological offspring of the deities I value (e.g., Asmodeus’s son Alfpunias and Hecate’s daughter Scylla), and something about the Nemean Lion called to me. He was a shapeshifting dweller-within-the-darkness of caves who beguiled and devoured his human prey, and upon his mythological vanquishing by Hercules, he was established in the night sky as the constellation Leo– that’s one of the Zodiac signs. There are only twelve of those. How badass do you have to be to become a fucking Zodiac sign when you die?

It really should have been obvious that the Nemean Lion would be an incredibly powerful and influential deity, but I was fucking shocked when I saw him. He fucking towered above me with indigo energy pouring from his body, and upon his manifestation, he imparted a series of spiritual revelations to me, greatly increasing my understanding of my True Will and granting me gnosis of the Qliphoth’s deepest mysteries. And the more information I channeled about him in rituals to come, the more astounding his power revealed itself to be.

Let’s start at the beginning. Luna/Selene is a spirit of chaos and corruption who presides over vampyric sorcery and gives auspices in rites of lethal execration. While Luna is more than willing to empower and be venerated the operations of the White Lodge, she herself has become darkened by self-imposed alchemies of black magick.

The Nemean Lion, as the devouring trickster and blight to the common man, was the pride of his mother. He grew up suckled by Selene in a two-mouthed cave and trained by Hera to be a blight on all mankind. The Nemean Lion, regarded as the king of all beasts, was an enormous shapeshifting trickster with impenetrable fur, and when he took residence in the caves of Nemea, he fed primarily on sheep, only endeavoring mortal combat with the trained warriors of Nemea.

Leonta Nemea is the therionick witch-god “born of the moon” whose legacy is mapped out in the starscape as “the constellation of mid-summer.” He can be called forth to open, presence the energies of, or guide the witch to any given Qlipha or Tunnel of Set, so he;s one of the best initiators and psychopomps for Qliphothic magick that I’ve communed with thus far. He even holds authority over the Vaults of Zin and all three of the Trans-Qliphothic Veils.

Moles Nemeaea manifests as either a male or a hermaphrodite. He can teach the witch to shapeshift within her dreams and interpret the meanings of the dreams she remembers. He can teach her to shapeshift her astral double into a lion or a ghoul. He rules over mountains, deserts, and forests and he specializes in execration: lethal curses, non-lethal destruction rites, vampyric malediction, and even binding spells.

Leo Nemeaeus can empower and awaken the Black Kundalini as well as the subpersonal chakras. He guides the witch and/or gives her aptitude for the endeavors of painting and seduction. He can teach the witch about psychology and math.

Leo Nemeum can impart wisdom, maturity, mindfulness, discipline, and masculinity unto the witch, and he can improve her short-term memory. He imparts gnosis of the True Will and past incarnations and he presides over the divinatory arts of pyromancy, casting runes, and skrying by mirror.

Leon Nemeaios specializes in sex magick, stellar magick, psionics, planetary magick, nature magick, banishing, shielding, draconian magick, the mysteries of Babalon, and magickal operations which call on tree spirits and/or the Planetary Spirit of the Earth. He can empower the Evil Eye, strengthen personal magnetism, and empower the witch’s natural psychic defenses. He presides over the Eleusinian Mysteries, lunar magick, astral shapeshifting, and Voudon.

Leon Nemeios can guide the magickian through the Vaults of Zin, as well as to Helheim, Asgard, Jotunheim, Olympus, Wernes, Sokar, Muspelheim, Daath, and the Akashic Records. In addition to being able to initiate the celebrant through any region of the Qliphoth, he can also give aid in a Non-Qliphothic Sphereworking: initiation through Shams [the Planetary Sphere of the Sun]. In Hades, he is attributed to the rivers of Cocytus, Styx, and Lethe. He’s also attributed to the Zodiac sign of Leo (I specified that in this paragraph with the sole intent of insulting your intelligence).

Update: Since writing this article, I have learned that the Trans-Qliphothic demoness known as Ustrina was known to the Gnostics by the name Barbelo. Researching Barbelo and seeing the conceptions of the Gnostics who venerated her may aide you in developing a stronger understanding of Barbelo-Ustrina.

Ustrina resides beyond the Qliphoth alongside Hecate and Samael, and yet she’s attributed to all Three Veils Before Samael as well as to four Qliphas. Her primary Qlipha assignment is to Sathariel (Saturn/Lucifuge Rofocale), and yet she is attributed to three other spheres, which three other spheres are precisely tied for second place, which is something unusual. These other three Qliphas as Gamaliel (Black Moon/Lilith), Nahemoth (Black Earth/Nahema), and Golab (Mars/Asmodeus).

It is interesting to note that Gamaliel and Nahemoth are both ruled by succubi– specifically two of the Four Brides of Samael known as the Four Matron Demonesses of (Primarily Clerical) Prostitution. Golab is ruled by a familial relative of those two succubi, who is largely considered a cambion, which is to say that he’s halfway incubitic. Sathariel is, of course, where the true throne of Lilith resides, as well as where Eisheth Zenunim (the eldest of the four brides) dwells.

Despite the fact that Ustrina is attributed to two Qliphas on the Qliphoth’s left column, two Qliphas on the central column, and none on the right column, she is attributed to all three veils before Samael. And the weird part is that she’s literally only attributed to one planet. Every demon has planetary attribution or two that historical (as opposed to modern) demonology left out,* but somehow, Ustrina literally only has one planetary attribution: Saturn.

Notice that Ustrina’s primary (or in this case, only) planetary attribution is the same planet that her primarily assigned Qlipha is attributed to. That is really fucking rare. Nahemoth, Gamaliel, and Sathariel are the spheres most related to the infernal feminine. Golab is attributed to Mars, which planet is known as the Lesser Malefic. Saturn is known as the Greater Malefic.

In her relationship to the Three Veils and her residence beyond the Qliphoth, Ustrina represents one of the highest manifestations of the infernal feminine. This is the 128th demon I’ve written an article about and even I’m fucking surprised. Some reason, reading Ustina’s name never got me even slightly interested in figuring out who she was. As it turns out, I wasn’t sensing that she was unremarkable or something (not that I thought she would be)– I was sensing that she was transcendent. Very, very fucking transcendent.

Ustrina can strengthen the witch’s personal magnetism, and her auspices are extremely helpful in dream work and oneiric sorcery. She can grant the magickian the abilities to recollect, interpret, and attain lucidity within dreams– and she can teach her to shapeshift within her dreams and dreamwalk other people.

Ustrina can be called upon in spellwork to restore fidelity, repair romantic relationships, get someone friends, take all of someone’s friends away, get one out of legal trouble, achieve employment, ensure safe travel, get someone a fuckbuddy, get someone a promotion, orchestrate the acquisition of money, improve someone’s luck, engender concealment, and make someone fall in love with you (never fucking do that).

Ustrina rules over caves, oceans, and rivers. She is one of the best demons around for chakra work– she specializes in every chakra individually, even the most obscure. She presides over welding and she can impart reasoning skills, determination, She can improve hand-eye coordination and physical reflexes. She can make the magickian a better liar and liberate her from feelings of shame.

Ustrina can cure one of anxiety problems unless the rite to do so isn’t powerful enough, in which case the symptoms of the anxiety problem will be permanently and noticeably diminished. She can also improve the magickian’s long-term memory. She can teach the witch psychology, welding,

In divination, Ustrina specializes in hydromancy and the use of Ouija boards, tea leaves, bones, and pendulums. She can impart knowledge of Voudon, Voodoo, Hoodoo, and the Eleusinian Mysteries. She can impart guidance regarding and/or magickally empower rites which call upon tree spirits or serve to create egregores. Her auspices are of great use in sex magick, mind reading, necromancy, healing spells, glamour magick, astral shapeshifting, and binding spells.

Ustrina can greatly empower magickal operations focused on the spiritual realms she has power over: Arezura, the Vaults of Zin, the realm I call Purgatory or the core of the earth, Falak Al-Aflak [the Primary Emanation], Shams [the Planetary Sphere of the Sun], and every region of the Egyptian Underworld (Ammit, Sekhet-Aaru, Wernes, etc.). She can be called upon to guide one to those realms.

*This is because the recorded attributions of given demons limited by the restrictive systems/hierarchies that the grimoiric demonology fit them into. The demons are more than what our ancestors could understand them to be. The spirits of the Qliphoth have hitherto unrecorded planetary attributions outside of the Qliphoth, and the demons delineated in the Ars Goetia have attributions to Qliphas that have yet to be discovered. Part of what I do is tap into the faculties of given demons that were overlooked in accordance with religious/cosmological tradition.

Unsere is one of the nine demonic divinities integral to the praxis of Traditional Demonolatry. He’s a demon of life and growth– a spirit of gnosis and sorcery who presides over matters of sorcery, fertility, family, and motherhood. While most practitioners of demon magick experience Unsere as a wise female authority, the demon appeared to me as male.

Unsere is an incredibly powerful witch-god who can help the celebrant ccommune with her Higher Self and its bestial aspect as the Spirit Animal. He can align the sorceress to her True Will and create egregores which will make channeling/spirit communication a lot easier. He presides over Shadowmancy, execration, torture magick, thursic magick, and initiation through Qamar [the Planetary Sphere of the Moon].

Unsere can impart maturity, wisdom, patience, foresight, growth, and positive change. He can be called upon in spellwork to bring about healing, “fix” existing romantic relationships (and bring about fidelity in those relationships), get a person out of legal trouble, engender concealment, bring about employment, and ensure safe travel. He can also be called upon to impart patience or to make somebody lose all their friends.

Unsere can teach the magickian to shapeshift her astral double into a wolf or a bear and guide her through the Vaults of Zin. He can remove or at least diminish the witch’s insecurites and diminish or remove the mental barriers to her psychic percipience and the manifesting of her sorceries. He can significantly and permanently diminish the symptoms of learning disabilities– if the rite for this purpose is strong enough, the disability can disappear entirely overnight. He can be called upon to strengthen the magickian’s imagination (i.e., visualization skills and more) and open portals to a given spiritual realm.

Unsere is a spirit of knowledge, witchcraft, alchemy, arcana, esotericism, and secrets. He can teach you about love spells and explain exactly why you shouldn’t use them. He can initiate the witch into the mysteries of Babalon and teach her to work with the Planetary Spirit of the Earth in rites of magick. He can impart knowledge of quantum mechanics, strategy, astrology, and archaeology– shit, he can even impart gnosis of Hebdomadry (i.e., the O9A’s “Sevenfold Way”). I’m not kidding: Unsere can teach you about the Tree of Wyrd and Star Game from the praxis of the Order of the Nine Angles.

Unsere can strengthen the witch’s natural psychic defenses and strengthen the Black Flame and the chakras of her spinal cord. He presides over singing and painting and his auspices of Unsere are useful in rituals focused on the spiritual realms known as Asgard and Svartalfheim. He can also be called upon for rites centered on any given region of the Egyptian underworld (Aaru, Wernes, Duat, Sokar, Ammit, etc.).

According to S. Conolly, Unsere imparts “an understanding and feminine wisdom of the self and others. She is the connection from the mental to the divine/spiritual. This leads to enlightenment.”

Disclaimer

I do not support the Order of the Nine Angles or associate with persons affiliated with it. Nonetheless, I do have beneficial relationships with many of the entities venerated by the O9A, and introducing these entities to the broader black magickal community has been something of a side-project of mine for some time.

I am writing this article because I believe that Shugara and other spiritual intelligences venerated by the O9A deserve a better pool of magickians to work with than that which the O9A has to offer. I believe that many members of my audience are or will become better equipped to work with and venerate Shugara than any “Niner” ever will be.

This article will exclusively feature original methods (chants & sigil) for conjuring Shugara. My experience is that the magickal current of the O9A causes the spirits they venerate to manifest in ways that are unusual, often undesirable, and generally unpleasant to both the magickian and the spirit.

Ergo, I have channeled a unique sigil for Shugara and channeled original chants which may be used to summon Shugara. The chants and sigil which the O9A present for the conjuration of Shugara do not appear anywhere in this article.

The Nature of Shugara

Shugara originated as the Japanese witchcraft deity most commonly referred to as Shagura– a name meaning “Autumn Rain.” Other name variates include Shigare, Shugara-a, and Shugra. While many Oriental divinities cannot be effectively conjured via Western magickal practices, Shagura and O-Yama/Emma-O certainly can. Some say that the manifestation of Shagura takes months of work to reach its full potential. She’s described by David Myatt as one of the most hideous intrusions which can be engendered in the causal plane; Myatt calls her “very dangerous.”

According to Temple of Satan*, Shugara is an entity of “fury and the bringer of death” “who lurks waiting in the pits of the Abyss!” The operators in this story call up Shugara by Enochian chant and are consumed upon the appearance of the entity. This narrative is true to life in that even experienced Niners and Hindus have had nightmaric experiences even evoking Shugara, who is referred to as “the Beast” in O9A literature.

Shugara manifests as male and female alike. She is partially demonic in the Goetic-Qliphothic since of the word. She has been known to manifest as the corpse of a female child, a wooden spider, a black figure, and more. Conjuring her can engender great change in your life, so if you intend to call upon her when you are possessed of desirable circumstances, seek advice from a tarot deck or your spirit guides first. Some even say that Shagura should only be called upon as a last resort, which is the same thing that S. Ben Qayin said about Azathoth.

Hagur describes Shugara as follows (note: English is not his first language):

Shugara, highly developed intellectually and greatly motivated achieves objectivity wherever he is found, bringing about the deep sinister intent.

I can thoroughly vouch for this description. Shugara is an incredibly wise and yet unpredictable goddess. She’s a master tactician whose plans consistently exhibit an astounding brilliance and intricacy. One moment you think she’s your enemy, the next minute she’s giving you valuable (and cryptic) advice at random. I’ve had people send Shugara after me or my friends  and wound up being called by the goddess to obliterate the magickians who sent her.

Shugara plays by her own rules. She may, under certain circumstances, involuntarily possess her worshiper’s friend to convey a cryptic message. She may use unusually dramatic signs to demonstrate her presence. She may introduce herself to you by attacking you at random to test you and get to know you. It would appear that she’s inclined to force you to witness the hidden ugly realities of the social circles you run in. But however unpredictable she may be, I have learned to trust the governing wisdom of her actions.

Shugara is known to be loving and kind and to forgive with great maturity. She may provide mundane blessings to the magickian at random– little things that make your life better and easier. She is certainly possessed of a sense of humor as well. According to the writings of Hagur:

Shugara is compared with a frog revealing human heads within its mouth, exposing his unfettered passion for destruction, war and culling, his only pleasure and challenge. And, he does act through all those feeling attracted to the archetypal Dark God Shugara. He brings near all those with a rough ambition.

So, Shugara embodies aggression, as a strong will force working through human history from ages immemorial. He also shows forth that showing compassion whether towards oneself (self-pity) is dangerous and also hypocritical towards others, as the doer will pay the price for his emotional action. The risk is especially high when Sinister Satanists in temple ritual are exercising Black Magick over victims, and are at the same time tormented and beaten up by doing it, the price to be paid for the lack of character will be very high.

*Temple of Satan is part of the Deofel Quintet– a series of five allegorical novels which impart certain magickal and philosophical teachings. Deofel is an Old English word for “Devil.” Certain Niners do not acknowledge the fifth entry to the Deofel Quintet– to them, Temple of Satan would be part of the “Deofel Quartet.” There are two versions of the controversial fifth entry; the latter of which (being the one I recommend) was edited so that it would be more useful (i.e., contain more magickal knowledge).

Shugara in Witchcraft

Shugara’s planetary attributions are to Neptune and Saturn, and she also holds authority over the spiritual realm of castigation within the core of the earth wherein dead souls suffer for their actions if they deserve it. On the Tree of Wyrd, Shugara is attributed to the pathway leading from Qamar [the Planetary Sphere of the Moon] to Utarid [the Planetary Sphere of Mercury].

In the Qliphoth, Shugara is attributed to all four Qliphas in the central column of the tree, which Qliphas are attributed to the three black planets and Thaumiel (Neptune & Pluto/ Moloch & Satan). She has lesser attributions to Golachab (Mars/Asmodeus) as well as Gashkalah (Jupiter/Astaroth)– her attribution to Golachab is stronger than her attribution to Gashkalah. Her primary attribution in the Qliphothic pathways is to the Tunnel of Set between Gamaliel (Black Moon/Lilith) and Thagiriron (Black Sun/Belphegor), and her secondary ToS attribution is the pathway from Thaumiel (Neptune & Pluto/ Moloch & Satan) to Thagiriron (Black Sun/Belphegor). Note that the second Tunnel of Set that she’s attributed to is the where Da’ath is located.

The auspices of Shugara are apt for lunar magick, casting runes, necromancy, astral projection, lethal and non-lethal execration, Qliphothic self-initiation, pyromancy, initiation through the spheres of the core of the earth and the moon, warding, shielding, exorcism, kundalini work, and chakra work.

Seek guidance before you work with Shugara. I would not advise using the magickal chants or sigil provided in O9A literature.

Shugara within Hebdomadry

While Sauroctonos and Gaubni were deities that I was meant to work with only and handful of times and thereafter forget about them, the goddesses which the O9A refers to as Davcina and Shugara are spirits that I will be working with for a very long time.

Sauroctonos is the deity known as Apollo in Olympian mythology and Abaddon in magickal demonology. While I am free to work with Apollo/Abaddon as I please, I was instructed to call upon the specific aspect of this deity which the O9A calls Sauroctonos only a handful of times. When you work with Sauroctonos, you will be given instructions of how many rites to him you should perform. If you call upon him one more time after the number of rites that Sauroctonos has instructed you to perform to him, he will castigate you. I’m told that if I had called upon him an additional time after that, I would have been punished.

My point in sharing that information about Sauroctonos is to show you that the Nekalah or “Dark Gods” venerated by the O9A are often manifestations of known Pagan deities which operate in a fashion particular to Hebdomadry (the magickal praxis of the O9A). While Sauroctonos is an aspect of Apollo, he will not act the same as Apollo generally would if called upon via the praxis of Hebdomadry.

While my intention in writing this article is to delineate facets of Shugara which were not integrated into the praxis of Hebdomadry, I will be discussing the representation of Shugara within the literature and magickal paradigm of the O9A later in the article. Regarding Shugara, Hagur writes:

Shugara influenced by the Moon knows the wilderness of the Dark Pool, the wilderness within us all. This may be the deepest value of such an experience when meditating on the Dark God, the recognition of our kinship with the Chthonic Underworld. Once entered into the Dark Pool, one becomes more reflective and responding to the persuasive pull of the Moon. In the Moonlight, the Sinister Man in communion with Shugara becomes a self-conscious part of the Pool, nature at night where the landscape is muted, details are indistinct, and yet beautiful and mysterious.

Downward the Pool of the inner sinister self through meditation, “the spiral staircase is used to arrive in the Blue room”, where the chaotic program (dark force and power, war, adversity, ark energy and sex) of Mars is evoked. The spiral staircase is man’s unconsciousness, where his dark life energy is moving at incredible speed through atoms into cells, organs and body. “The Blue room” (indigo blue, almost black) stands for the sinister man’s intelligence and ego under Moon control, becoming the perfected Sinister Satanist.

Many Niners record a sense of self-discovery resulting from the ToW’s sphereworking via Shugara. Increases in confidence and self-knowledge are a common motif. Persons evoking Shugara via Hebdomadry often describe a physically extant stench arising as Shugara manifests. One Niner even described the stench being so awful and lingering for so long that he wound up searching his chamber for something dead. An O9A blog entitled Yorkshire Rounwytha presents a recording of a sphereworking through Qamar [the Planetary Sphere of the Moon] via the Tree of Wyrd– Hebdomadry’s equivalent to Qabbalah’s Tree of Life. The Niner writes:

I begin to chant the name, Shu-ga-ra echoing throughout the darkness and filling my mind. I note under the incense a vague smell growing, and realise what it is- rotting meat. The stories are true, then.

I then stand up and begin my spiralling dance, feeling incredibly dizzy quite quickly. All throughout the rite I had felt a nagging doubt at the back of my mind. I feel unprepared, the sounds of civilisation are bothering me and I do not feel as engaged as I was the previous times I undetook the Dark Pathways. I feel this rite may be a failure. Regardless I carry on until dizziness forces me to the ground, out of breath and finishing the rite with a beseechment to Shugara. During the rite, I felt genuine fear at what I was calling, my mind imagining great black cat-like creatures peering through the darkness at me, with yellow eyes waiting to consume.

I sit in front of the altar afterward, wondering if it had been a success. I felt the doubt grow and turn into anxiety and then the anxiety give way to a vey uncomfortable feeling. I saw men, in ancient times, worshipping great slabs of rock smeared in blood and lit by fire, the horrors of war, the horror of being human in this vast world.

The terror slowly filled me, making me feel incredibly disturbed and jaded, as if I had witnessed a gruesome accident of some sort. I had wholly misinterpreted what Shugara’s essence was, and suffice to say, it was and is not a pleasant essence at all. Shugara is the pathway from the Moon to Mars, and quite fittingly…

…No frogs revealed human heads, just a stark and uncompromising view of what this world can offer in it’s most bloodied form.

Another Niner recorded his experience with Shugara as follows:

This is when the acknowledgement proper to Shugara began. I vibrated the name for what felt like half an hour before I felt compelled to stop. The caves I was in were far off the visitor’s path, and I knew that the local bats weren’t in residence at the time, so I could be reasonably certain that no natural noises would occur, and I prepared to sit in the pure darkness for another hour or so, vigilant for any sign.
What began then was a strong burning sensation on the skin, accompanied by a powerful and sickening scent, at once sweet and brutish. I am not one to experience panic, but what followed could be best described as something akin to a drawn-out panic attack. It came and went over an unclear amount of time, and was followed by a sense of blurring of self, a dull ecstasy that felt more like dread when unexplored.
The sensation still sits with me now. I ruminate on it daily, and it will change me. I have felt and seen what a world in flames could mean at its worst.

New: Approaching Shugara

Allow me to provide clarity on some of the concerns that I expressed in this article. We’ll start by contrasting Shugara with Atazoth, whom Hagur provides as an exogenous counterpart, and Choronzon, whom Shugara is mistaken for by disabled cock-stained assclowns a few rumor-prone Alex-Jones-type people.

Atazoth and Choronzon alike have both manifested to me as entirely lucid, rational, beneficent, and transcendentally wise intelligences. However, they have also both manifested to me as disharmonious forces whose mere presence was affliction. The reason for this is simple: Atazoth and Choronzon (and Shugal, for that matter) are, at their core, lucid, self-aware, and prudent intelligences, but should a person evoke one of them with the fear that she will be contacting a babbling and volatile deity, they would manifest in the very state of disharmony which the magickian was paranoid about.

This is what differentiates Shugara from Choronzon, Shugal, and Atazoth: Shugara is not possessed of whatever component-of-being causes Atazoth to manifest as a blaze of fury and idiocy when it is believed by the summoner that he will do so. On one occasion, I summoned Shugara on the fly with the O9A’s chants, and she began joking around with me. Her words would have been the world’s funniest joke if I hadn’t misidentified them as hostile derision. I became worried that I might have accidentally caused her to manifset in the disharmony-of-composure that Atazoth embodies when he is summoned by someone who has taken the phrase “blind idiot god” too literally.

But I hadn’t. Shugara fixed my problem, made a hilarious joke, and stayed around me for a day or so longer, giving me life lessons and emotional support via both astrally audible words and direct telepathic communication. My conversations with her produced very tangible changes in a couple situations of personal adversity.

So, now I see that Shugara, even when summoned in a frantic state of mind, even when summoned as a last resort, and even when she is summoned by using only the praxis of Hebdomadry, is a trustworthy goddess. If I compose myself as well as I intend to in future interactions with her, she’ll never have to prove herself to me again.

When summoning Shugara, you can use any chants and any sigils provided for working with her by the David Myatt, yours truly, or any resources about Shugara which are truly worth reading. It doesn’t make much difference; in her words: “You aren’t powerful enough to control how I manifest.”

Magickal Hymn to Semyaza

IMG_0750
Above: Original Sigil of Semyaza

My magickal hymns may be incorporated into any ritual or may be recited alone with a predetermined intent (such as spiritual empowerment) as a spiritual exercise in themselves. This hymn may be recited once or recited repeatedly. The more you work with a spirit, the easier it becomes for you to manifest them. While magickal hymns will generally produce small amounts of spiritual development if recited one time every once in a while as a stand-alone exercise, but the fact is, every time you take the two minutes it takes to empower yourself by reciting one of these hymns, you are developing an energetic rapport with the entity you are calling on that will benefit future workings to them. This hymn calls to Semyaza.

BehemothAbove: Original Sigil of Behemoth

Behemoth appears in the tradition of Primal Craft as the Dragon of the Earth and in forgotten Qablistic lore as a regent of Nahemoth (Black Earth/Nahema). In Demonology, Behemoth is said to reside in an invisible desert east of the Garden of Eden. As Leviathan is the apocalyptic beast of the sea and Ziz is the apocalyptic beast of the air, Behemoth is the apocalyptic beast of the earth.

In Abrahamic demonology, Behemoth is the night watchman who oversees Hell’s feasts and provides musical entertainment. He is described as the demon of indulgence and ascribed to the ranks of caretaker of Hell’s wine cellars, grand cupbearer of the royal household of Hell, and one of the nine commanders of Hell’s armies. He’s referred to as the demon of despair and held to preside over the pleasures of the belly.

According to The Complete Book of Demonolatry Magic by J. Thorp, Behemoth rules money, prosperity, and luck. In Queen of Hell, Mark Alan Smith refers to Behemoth as the “Earth Dragon” and describes him as a “mighty force of draconian power.” According to Smith:

The Dragon both travels through, and draws near unlimited power from, the intersecting lines of primordial power that link the energy points of this planet. It is from these dragon lines that the Earth Dragon draws much, but not all, of its power.

In Queen of Hell, Smith also writes:

The height of Behemuth is governed by how submerged in the earth its bodv remains. The skin is similar in colour to the iridescent reddish brownn of Belial and Lucifer’s Horned God manifestations. The eyes are unmistakeably reptilian, huge yellow ovals with long dark slit down the centre. There is no mistaking the features of this mighty Titan, He is Behemuth, the Dragon who dwells at the Nightside of Malkuth.

Behemuth is to be greeted as would any other God or spirit of the ancient craft, with courtesy and a firm will; after which all intentions should be stated and necessary instructions given.

Behemoth presides over crossroads, caves, mountains, deserts, and rivers. He can be called upon in execration magick to place curses of several varieties: vampyric, lethal, and non-lethal. His auspices are useful in the pursuit of communion with the Higher Self, alignment with the True Will, and Shadowmancy/shadow work. In divination, Behemoth specializes in the use of Ouijia boards, Norse runes, bones, tarot decks, and crystal balls. He specializes in reading palms as well.

It is of significance that Behemoth’s lesser Qliphothic attributions are to Satorial (Saturn/Lucifage) and Aogiel (Uranus/Beelzebuth). These are the two Qliphas which Adam Belial/Edom Belial is attributed to. Separate from Belial, Edom Belial is the archetype of the perfect black magickian, attributed therefore to the two penultimate Qliphas of the Qliphothic Column of the Great Beast and the Qliphothic Column of the Great Whore alike. Behemoth’s relationship to both of these Qliphas tells us a lot about his nature.

Behemoth can be called upon to strengthen the Evil Eye and empower the astral double. He can grant the magickian the ability to remember her dreams and interpret their messages. He can strengthen the Black Flame and teach the magickian to shapeshift her astral double into a bear, a ghoul, or a dragon. He can improve the witch’s short-term and/or long-term memory, liberate her of addiction (or partially heal the symptoms of said addiction), and divest her of the mental barriers to her psychic perceptions and the manifesting of her sorceries.

In my personal gnosis, Behemoth was created by Lilith, Astarte, and Satan.

In Tree of Shadows, Daemon Barzai describes Behemoth manifesting as a skeletal dragon and explains that this appearance signifies the coincidence of earthly and chthonic attributes within the demon’s physis. Barzai also purports that Behemoth will manifest as a monstrous, cave-like mouth which the sorceress can walk into to enter the Infernal Plane. Barzai writes that Behemoth will often pose riddles to the celebrant which require her to look within, and in doing so, both tests the witch and engenders epiphanies of self-understanding within her.

Behemoth can be called upon for workings of necromancy and nature magick. His energy is described as very dynamic. He can be called upon in magick to “fix” existent romantic relationships. He can empower the psychic senses and his auspices are apt for Kundalini work. He can incite massive changes in the material circumstances of the witch and engender the alteration of her psyche, and he is said to be the guardian of treasures buried in the earth.

Behemoth is the Hebrew word for “Beasts,” not “Beast.” The use of the plural form of the word, in the context wherein Behemoth is the name of the apocalyptic beast of the earth, signifies the greatness of Behemoth’s stature rather than suggesting that the name “Behemoth” refers to a myriad of entities.

Traditional interpretations of Abrahamic lore interpret Behemoth as being a hippopotamus, elephant, crocodile, water buffalo, and a dinosaur. However, practitioners of demon magick usually describe Behemoth as a dragon. The spirit is also said to be capable of taking the forms of cats, foxes, dogs, or wolves. It is said that the only entity which can kill Behemoth is the entity which created him, which probably isn’t really the Abrahamic deity.

In Abrahamic lore, Behemoth is held to be the first creation of the Abrahamic deity and the first chief of the “ways of God.” He carries the earth on his back like Atlas and it is believed that his existence is the mechanism of the causal world’s stability. Since he is attributed to the precursor to the causal universe (Nahemoth), the highest Qlipha of Babalon (Satariel), and the highest Qlipha of the Great Beast (Aogiel), the significance this lore attributes to him is probably accurate– albeit misunderstood by way of monotheism.

The invisible desert known as Dundayin is located within Behemoth’s chest.

Third Magickal Hymn for Primal Craft

A few days ago, I wrote a magickal hymn to the triumvirate of Qliphothic-Atlantean deities venerated in Primal Craft and the Draconian Tradition, which triumvirate is known as the Trident. The Trident consists of Lucifer, Belial, and Hecate, and the tradition known as the Primal Craft, being established by Mark Allan Smith, is a self-initiatory paradigm of demon magick purposed towards the pursuit of black magickal and alchemical self-deification.

Generally, my magickal hymns can be incorporated into any rite for any intended purpose– usually magickal self-empowerment and alchemical transmutation. Alternately, my magickal hymns can be used as magickal exercises in and of themselves– one hymn can be recited repeatedly or a handful of my hymns can be recited once (or more). The first hymns I wrote called upon deities I wanted to work with closely in the future when I wasn’t ready to work closely with them at the time– by incorporating these hymns to deities I had yet to pursue a relationship with into my rituals, I started the process of reaching out to them gradually, conveniently, and regularly. This increased my energetic rapport with the deities, and by doing that, I was gradually improving my ability to perceive and call forth those deities.

So, my magickal hymn to the Trident was intended to either give a head start to persons who intended to enact the praxis of Mark Allan Smith’s grimoires in the future or provide a convenient and useful exercise/sacrament to current practitioners of Primal Craft between their performances of Smith’s written rituals.

I was surprised and flattered when Hecate came to a friend of mine and told him that she wanted me to write two more magickal hymns for the tradition of Primal Craft. They channeled such specific instructions that I now know that the value of these hymns to practitioners of Primal Craft will be far greater than I anticipated. Being called to contribute my work and my magick to the incredible tradition of Primal Craft by Hecate herself is such a high fucking compliment.

This hymn calls upon all of the deities called upon in Queen of Hell by Mark Allan Smith. It uses various names for the Qliphoth/Kliffoth, including Sitra Ahra/Sitra Achra/Sitra Achara [Other Side], Reshut Ha-Rabbim [Kingdom of Manifoldness], Archarayim [Backwards Tree], and Mavethol. While all the other names of the Qliphoth used in the hymn are titles from traditional Hebrew literature, Mavethol is an invented and consecrated/empowered magickal name for the Qliphoth that I programmed to function as a word of power. Mavethol can be exclaimed and/or vibrated in Qliphothic sorcery to strengthen and rite or spell.

The Black Light of the Qliphoth, which many know by the name of Xul, is referred to by the names Aur Chashakh [Illumination of Darkness] and She-Ein Bo Mahshavah [Light Without Thought of Creation]. The hymn also uses multiple names for some of the deites called upon. The three Fates/Moires are referred to both by their Greek names (Clotho, Lachesis, & Atropos) and their Roman names (Mortia, Decima, & Neuna), as well as referred to by two of their traditional plural nouns/names: Moirae, & Parcae. What follows is a list of alternate names used for the deities called upon as used in this hymn:

Belial: Belias
Cerberus: Nuberus, Cerbere, Naberius
Lucifuge Rofocale: Lucifugus Rofocalus, Lucerifuge, Lucifuge
Euronymous: Eurynomos

One of the deities called upon in the hymn is Tassatowah. According to Queen of Hell, Tassatowah is (i) a name for Hecate, (ii) a name for a deity who answers to Hecate, and (iii) a word of power which opens the Abyss.
